Thrilling Experience: Lalaspeed E Kart Raceway 2023
This week, Mihu’s nephews drop by to visit us from Maldives! We took them for a nice day out in town. One of them really wanted to drive go karts while they are here, so, we went to give this experience a whirl at Lalaspeed E Kart Raceway. It is located at this gorgeous new Japanese inspired mall called Lalaport Bukit Bintang on Level 5. This raceway is home to the first ever rooftop Electric Vehicle GO-Kart with awesome view of Kuala Lumpur in the background.

Lalaspeed E Kart Prices
People driving the E Carts must be 120cm above and at least 7 years old above.
There are three categories you can choose from, which are Advance Mode (30kph – need driver license), Thrilling Mode (20kph) and Novice Mode (10kph). All these difference modes differ based on their speeds, hence the prices will be different too but all the categories will give you 12 minutes of playing time.
If your kid is too young, you can book a tag along cart where you get to play and they will strap your kid to an extra cart behind you. It’s very safe, they get to enjoy the view, not to mentioned dad and mum can rekindle some love time in a hot speedy match.
Our nephew was kinda down he didn’t get to try the advance mode, but all the more reason to come back when he has his own driver’s license.
What to Expect
As soon as we arrived, it was a full of people (Public Holiday) seeking to have an adventurous day with their kids too but the staff was kind to explain the price categories, measured our nephew’s height and what does everything entail. Here are some of the things that was explained to us.
Electric Cart VS Gas Cart
Power Source: The most significant difference lies in their power sources. Gas karts rely on combustion engines fueled by gasoline or other petroleum-based fuels, while e-karts are powered by electric motors fueled by batteries.
Emissions and Environmental Impact: Gas karts produce emissions, including carbon dioxide and other pollutants, contributing to air pollution and environmental degradation. On the other hand, e-karts produce zero emissions, making them a greener and more environmentally friendly option.
Performance and Acceleration: Electric go karts are faster than gas-powered go karts, hitting their top speed much more quickly. With gas-engine go karts, the engine’s acceleration is slower before it reaches its top revolutions per minute (RPM).
Noise Level: Gas karts generate noise due to the combustion engine, while e-karts run silently, resulting in a quieter racing environment. This feature can be beneficial for venues located in residential areas or for individuals seeking a more peaceful racing experience. But you will still feel like you are an F1 Driver whizzing through the course.
Safety and Support
At Lalaspeed, safety was paramount. You had to watch the safety briefing before you can play. How long is that? It depends on the previous players. Once the previous players have finished their 12 minutes, the marshal will inspect the E Carts one by one to see if they have enough batteries and mainly check on other safety related matter.
I was concerned about it tipping over as my nephew was talking about drifting the corners and when I voice this out, the marshal kindly explained that electric go karts have evenly-distributed battery weight, so they are less likely to flip compared to gas powered carts. Even if they flip, the cart is protected by steel guards all around, so the kids will be safe.
When it was finally their turn, I can see him very excited to get into his Pikachu themed cart. The whole thing was too big for him and they had to readjust the seat and buckled him safely into the cart. I personally like how the marshall was really attentive to ensure my nephew was strap on safely.
Provided with comprehensive instructions, and the karts were equipped with safety features that gave us peace of mind – I had no qualms of them to try their ‘drifts’ if they wanted. Throughout the race, the staff closely monitored the track, ready to assist whenever needed.
Final Thoughts
It can be a controversial past time – RM68 per person just for 12 minutes?
Money aside, it’s the experience that really matters. Our nephew was smiling from ear to ear and can’t stop talking about his Pikachu cart, the beautiful view of the merdeka tower in the background, the sharp turns he took, the win in his hair and so much more. He was excitedly telling his brother and parents about his day and that, ladies and gentlemen, something really unforgettable for that kid and that’s why parents should consider to invest in such fond memories. It does hurt the pockets but those kindda memories is hard to come by and something they will treasure for some time.
